Hi,

I have an issue with the Maximum Item Size.
A new set of public folders "extranet" were created a
while ago for external contractors.The limit on Maximum
Item size for these folders was set at 10 MB.

A user tried to post a document of 1.8MB to one of these
folders and received the error;
"This item exceeds the maximum size defined for this
folder and can't be saved. Ask your server administrator
to increase the folder limits."

I increased the folder limits, and tried posting the same
document myself (with full Admin rights). I also received
the same message. I then removed the limits on the folder.
After removing the limits, I waited for 30 minutes and
tried again. I still received the same error message.

I've checked access permissions and these appear to be
correct.
I restarted the Exchange Server in hopes this might
rectify the problem. Unfortunately the problem still
exists, even when trying to post different documents of
varying sizes to the folder.

I would be grateful if someone could help me in resolving
this issue.

Thanks,

Nick

How big is the public folder. I have found that there is a default 2gb limit
on the size of an individual folder. I just created another folder and split
the data.

So the value you put into the "Maximum item size" was 10240, right?
You didn't make the mistake of putting "10" there, did you?

Do you have more than one server? If you have more than one, when you
connect to each of them in turn, do you see the same values in the
properies?

Rich,

You are correct, the "Maximum Item Size" was 10240. Although even when the
Maximum Item Size was cleared to allow items of unlimited size, I still
couldn't save the 1.8MB file.

To answer your second question, I have only one Exchange server in the forest.
The total size of the "extranet" public folders is approx 100MB.

On further digging, I noticed the following error message after the reboot;

<snip>
Event Type: Error
Event Source: EXOLEDB
Event Category: Events
Event ID: 112
Date: 2004-10-11
Time: 18:10:56
User: N/A
Computer: NAMTAR
Description:
Microsoft Exchange OLEDB was unable to register OnSyncSave event for Schema
propagation on MDB startup HRESULT = 0x8000ffff.
</snip>

I also noticed that the "extranet" public folders had two "schemaroot"
system folders. The default Public Folders only has one and does not
experience the problems the "extranet" public folders do.

Could either the 2 schemaroots and/or EventID 112 be the cause of the
problem? and if so, any suggestions on how to rectify these?

Many thanks,

Nick

I can't find a whole lot of information on this at all. Mostly just a
few other folks asking the same question: "what does it mean?"

I'd leave the schemaroot folders alone. I went through a long cleanup
process of public folders and AD folder objects and the answer (after
some months os back and forth with MS) was to leave them alone.

The failure to register an event sink is a good starting place. But
the folks that would know more about what's actually going on would be
MS PSS.

I had the same issue, I removed the 10240 size limit from the root of my
public folders in exchange system Manager on my server. I closed outlook on
a client PcIw as then able to drag and drop emails into the public folders.
