This is about the most confusing thing I've ever dealt with. My situation is
this...

I've got one NT 4.0 file server. I have one license of BENT/2000 v.8.0 on
the server and a tape drive. I use this server to backup only it's local
drives and a few workstations.

Now I've added a new Microsoft Exchange server for a total of two servers.
I'd like to continue to use the first server to backup the new exchange
server in addition to itself.

What Veritas products do I need to purchase to allow me to use my original
backup server to also backup the new Exchange server? Will the Exchange
agent alone allow me to backup the exchange server, or do I also need to
purchase the NT Accelerator Agent as well?

I can't seem to find the answer to this anywhere and the vendors I deal with
are useless in this regard. Seems like such a simple thing...

You could call Veritas...

But I believe you need to buy an NT Agent for the Exchange Server as well.

If you upgraded from the BENT 7.x Enterprise product, you get three Agent
licenses with 8.0. Otherwise it's single server.

Your going to need the exchange agent/license to backup the stores and
mailboxes. I believe it is about three or four hundred. One thing that is
nice about the new 8.0 is that you don't have to keep a non-production
exchange server for restoring exchange.

But you still should (keep a non-production server for restoring exchange).
How do you do your disaster recovery drills? How do you verify that your
backups are indeed good? How do you raise the skill level of your
administrators so that when there is a crisis, they do it right? When your
own house is on fire is no time to learn how to be a firefighter. Similarly,
when you are lost in the woods is no time to try to learn how to use a
compas.
