I'm wondering if it's possible to share Excel files in a public folder
and give some users read permission and others change? If so, what is
the correct way to add the file as an object? I tried dragging the
file to the folder and it appeared to work but when I opened it, I got
a message saying something to the affect of, "Exchange does not know
what application to use to open the file". It ultimately lets me open
the file but I'm not able to save changes to it. My only option is to
save it as a new Excel file and then copy that one into the folder.
I'm hoping there is a way to edit and save changes directly to the
file in the folder. We are running Exchange 5.5, Outlook and Win 98
desktops.

Thanks

It's possible. To quote from the MS Excel 2000 help ("Post a workbook
to a Microsoft Exchange folder"):

1. Open the workbook you want to post.
2. On the File menu, point to Send To, and then click Exchange Folder.
3. In the folder list, click the folder where you want to post the workbook.

As far as read/write access is concerned, you would address that through
the permissions on the public folder itself.

Hi Amiri,
I tried your suggestion and it does post the workbook to the folder but it
appears to be the same as dragging it there. I received the same message
when I opened it and I was not able to save changes to the workbook. Perhaps
it's not doable?
