W2K Advanced Server (SP2)
IIS 5.0
Exchange 2000 (SP2)
DSL with a Netgear RO318 router
I was able to connect to my email server inside and outside my network for
quite some time. Then I started running out of room on my C drive (poor
planning) and moved all my web apps to the D drive and changed all the Home
Directories Local Paths within the IIS manager to the new locations. Next
thing I know, I can't access my email server and all incoming mail is
rejected or drops into never, never land. I am not sure the two are related
but that is all that I remember changing on my network. The problem, I
believe is that the SMTP Virtual Server (I have only one instance) in the
Exchange System Manager now fails to start. Everytime I attempt to start it
the System Log gets the 115 event and the Application Log gets the following
events:
Event ID: 332 SMTP service has been started, initializing queues.
Event ID: 334 SMTP service instance 1 has been started.
Event ID: 335 SMTP service instance 1 has been stopped.
Event ID: 334 SMTP service has been stopped.
However, the SMTP service is running (control panel app). When trying to
access the email server from a client, I get the following error.
The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'mail.mydomain.com',
Server: 'mail.mydomain.com', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No,
Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E
The POP3 Virtual Server status is running in the Exchange Systems Manager
and the Microsoft POP3 service is running (control panel app). Everything
looks good under IIS and all web pages are being served.
Any ideas, tips, jokes, words of wisdom, etc. would be greatly appreciated!

"Home Directory" is a property of a web /site/, not a virtual
directory. Changing that shouldn't bother the Exchange server.

Is the mail in the "drop" directory (inetpub\mailroot\drop)?

Try running "setup /reinstall" (from the Exchange server CD) and
reapplying the Service Pack to Exchange 2000.
