I want to be able to import and/or export connection and msg filtering rules
in Exchange 5.5 sp4. Despite having searched extensively for a way to do
this on dozens of web sites, I can't find anything.

Is there a way to do this? Geez, this seems like such a basic thing to want
to do.

TIA for any help.

As far as I know, the API is proprietary and nobody I know can figure it
out.

Actually, the API is documented in the SDK. The information is stored
in a BLOB that requires the services of a DLL to "crack" and read the
information.

IIRC, the API isn't a COM object, so using vbs isn't possible. You'd
have to use VB or C++.

Thanks for the info. I tried the procedure listed in Q160971, but no
joy. No problems creating the header (.csv) file or the options text
file, but when performing the command line export nothing happens.
Checking the NT Application event log I find that the export started,
but then stopped, complaining that

"The basepoint object /o=SEVENTHWAVE /ou=SEVENTHWAVE
/cn=configuration /cn=connections does not exist in the directory."

I'm assuming that /cn=configuration and /cn=connections *has* to
exist, so there must be something wrong with /o or /ou. I'm not
quite sure how to confirm these yet, so if any suggestions would be
great!

Make sure you capitalize everything correctly.

Ah. I got it. You also are not supposed to put quotes around names
with spaces in them. Thanks.

<sigh> Now another question: my export was successful (I guess),
but only one line was exported. I was expecting dozens of lines,
preferrably a few with my routing restrictions and message filtering
rules in them. The option "Subcontainers" in my options text file is
set to "Yes".... any ideas on this?
