We are trying to sync Free/Busy info between Exchange Organizations (Exch
2000 and Exch 5.5). I configured exscfg.exe and created a service using
exssrv.exe. Guys overs Exchange 2000 can see Free/Busy times of users in Exch
5.5, but not other way.

On Exch5.5 side, we keep getting in the event log

"Unable to create a MAPI session to server [Exch2000Server] using mailbox
[admini...@xxx.com] under NT username [administrator] and domain [xxxx]
on session 'this to that'.

The InterOrg tool log says,

Unable to create a MAPI session to server [Exch2000server] using mailbox
[admini...@icst.com] under NT username [administrator] and domain [xxxx]
on session 'this to that'.

On Exch2000 side, Interorg replication has no errors.

Please help me. I am pulling my hair out for past two days.

Yes, I have created new user (exchsync) with mailbox in Exch5.5 server. The
exchsync user has owner permissions on Free/Busy system folder and
ExchsyncSecurityFolder. It's also has Exchange administrator permissions and
part of local administrator group on sync server.

On Exchange 2000 side, we are using Administrator account which also have
owner permissions to Free/Busy system folder and ExchsyncSecurityFolder.

Thanks,

I am fairly certain that it would work better if there was a dedicated
account/mailbox on the 2000 side as well...it's a picky utility...

We created and using new user account in Exch2000 side. But, the issue still
exists.

The event log from Exch5.5 side posts as below,

Unable to create a MAPI session to server [Exch2000server] using mailbox

[exchsync] under NT username [exchsync] and domain [W2KADDomain] on session
'this to that'.

But on Exch2000 side, InOrg tools replicates with no issues.

Thanks for the help.

Susan,
I finally figured it out. It was permission issue with
ExchsyncSecurityFolder. We gave the permission (owner) to the above folder to
the service account. But it was not taking effect on Exchange 2000 server.

I decided to give Default user to Owner permission and it turned out to be
the solution. It's working now after the above change.

I'm having the exact same problem you are having, however I dont understand
your solution.

Exch 5.5 ---> Exch 2003: Free busy fails - same error you described.
Exch 2003 ---> Exch 5.5 : Works fine.

I have an account in each organization that runs the service.
Each respective account has Folder Visible permission on the
ExchsyncSecurity Folder in it's org.

I have not modified the permissions on the Free/Busy System folder, it was
not mentioned in the interorg documentation.

You gave Owner permission to Default on the ExchSyncSecurityFolder in each
organization and that worked? They say do not specify any permissions for
Default or Anonymous.

thanks
