We are looking at the possibly implementing an email archiving system. We
are currently running Small Business Server 2000 and I wonder if some
Exchange archiving software could be recommended for that version by folks
who may have actually used the products...

We may also be looking at upgrading to SBS 2003. Does that version of
Exchange include email archiving perhaps? If not, what about Exchange 2005?

Thanks, Brad

Exchange 2003 supports an archive mailbox, where a copy of all mail is
archived to an archive mailbox. That's a pretty limited archive
implementation, but there are third-party products that bolt on to this
archive mailbox approach.

There is no such thing as Exchange 2005, sorry, but Exchange 2007's approach
is even better. All mail passes through the Hub Transport role server, and
you can easily specify a rule that ships a copy of the mail off to an
archive system via SMTP.

Sorry, after I sent that I realized it was Exchange 2007 - not 2005....

I understand Exchange 2007 only runs on 64 bit systems though? Is that true?

That is true. Exchagne 2007 is supported on Windows 64-bit only for
production. You can build a lab for testing and development and deploy the
32-bit version, using physical servers, Microsoft Virtual Server or VMWare
if you want, though.

Been having similar archive issues

have a look at www.sperrysoftware.com under the attachment save addon.

this works as an outlook addon but can strip mail out to file folders with
auto rename and attachment options.

good if you want to archive email and project docs into the file system and
out of the mail system.

Hi
If you are looking for a robust and reliable email archiving solution
consider Naxian Message Tracker www.naxian.com

Naxian has two version for the MS exchange environment - A version for
SBS that follows the licencing structure of MS SBS and a version for
MS Server licenced on a per server basis.

Naxian Message Tracker is fast proving to be a solution of choice for
a number of reasons.

Cost is one reason as the solution competes directly with the
symantec's and zantaz's of this world in terms of functionality and
reliability but at a fraction of the cost. The solution is also kept
as simple as possible for integration as part of a larger document and
records management solution allowing for the use of sharepoint,
papertrail, mangofile, documentum and so on should it be necessary.

Please feel free to contacg me for any advise or even if you wish to
evalaute the solution.

Regards
