If you are trying to send to ag.unc.edu then it is a problem their end, do
you have problems sending to anyone else?

This article explains how to configure your SMTP server so that it can relay
for authenticated users, but not for unauthenticated users.

Thank you for the posts. The situation is that I and the distant end are
set up just like this. I can send and receive to everywhere but this users
organization and he can do the same. Now he can send to me, but I can not
send to him. So my guess is the problem is on his end. Does this bring any
ideas to mind. Thank you again!

it's possible that the other end has implemented reverse dns lookup...I've
had problems like this occasionally, too...it's always been some
configuration setting on the other side...can you send to his mailbox with a
yahoo account, or something similar, as a test?

Yes, I can send to the distant end with any other account, AOL, Hotmail,
etc... He is receiving everything from everyone else, except me. He can
send emails to my system just fine, but when I go to reply I get:

You do not have permission to send to this recipient. For assistance,
contact your system administrator.

I am experiencing the same thing for one particular user to at least
two different destination email addresses. He gets the "you do not
have permission to send to this recipient" error, but I don't get this
when sending to the same address. Please let me know if you get this
figured out.

Hi Darrin,
The fix for my particular problem was that I changed the order of my DNS
boxes. I do not completely see how this was the fix, because there was not
incorrect cache, but once this was done everything works great. It appears
the distant end that I was not able to send to had changed their MX record
to point to a different box. I am guessing that this caused my queue (SMTP)
to back up and caused the problem. Hope this helps.
