Protect cell but allow copy command?

I have a problem with people thinking they are copying cells in a column
when they are really incrementing the value of the first cell (and not paying
attention). Is there a way to protect the column and allow them to copy but
not change the cells?

Yes, go to the cell right click and select format cells from the pop-up menu.
Then go the very last right tab and place a check mark in locked and hidden
check boxes, click OK. Then go back to the main sheet and select protection
from the "Tools" menu, there, select "Protect Worksheet". Add a password of
your choice and that should do it. However, since this is still Excel, if the
user(s) copies and pastes across many columns or rows, depending on what you
are trying to accomplish, they may still be able to blow out your formulas,
be careful to instruct them of the dangers of doing that!

Do you know of a way to protect the cell of a worksheet but allow user to
input data? We need to find a way to allow user to input their own data but
not erase the formulas. Thanks

If you allow users to input their own data in a cell, the formula will be wiped
anyway.

Input or formula, not both.

Copy the cell, right click on the cell where you want to paste it, select
'Paste Special', check 'Values', OK.

If you find that you need to do this a lot, then you can add a "Paste Values"
button to one of your toolbars.

I have protected my formulas, but the users can destroy the formula if they
use the cut and paste command instead of copy and paste. Is there a way to
prevent the users from doing this?

How have you protected the formulas that still allows a cut and paste over
those formulas?

Lock those cells then protect the worksheet and you cannot edit those locked
cells in any manner.

In the "Protect Sheet" (?, "Proteger hoja" in my Spanish interface), make
sure the two top boxes, "Select locked cells" and "Select unlocked cells"
("Seleccionar celdas bloqueadas", "Seleccionar celdas desbloqueadas´") if you
want to give other users permission to copy from the cells. If you do not
want to permit others to copy from the cells, only to see them on the screen,
uncheck "Select blocked cells".
Also note you can set password protection. He (she) who tries to modify a
locked cell will immediately be prompted for the password.

Does this work the same way in 07? I have tried it several times. However,
it will not allow me to copy and insert a row without entering the password.
