Hi,

Whats the simplest way to get round the Excel 2000 limit of converting
numbers to
the value of up to 512 to binary using the dec2bin function?

I prefer not to download any addons or utilities.

Thanks,

Tim

There is a relatively easy approach to convert dec2bin without excel's 512
limitation. Assumes a number to convert is in A1. Select a range of 16 cells
(a piece of a column ) and ARRAY-ENTER!!! the following formula:

=MOD(INT(A1/POWER(2,16-ROW(1:16))),2)

The formula decodes decimal ( up to 2^16 = 65536) to binary across 16 rows.
If you want to convert numbers greater than 2^16 then replace 16 with
greater integer in the formula. For ex 21 allows to convert numbers up to
2^21 = 2097152 ( berore entering select a range of 21 cells) etc.
