I am trying to find a spreadsheet to do some lumber take-offs. I am working
on creating one myself, but am looking for some ideas. Has anyone ever come
across one? Or a site where excel user post there own created worksheets??

Thanks!

Mark,
I have been using Excel to do some estimating tasks and would be happy to
share some of what I have done. I am including a sample of a lumber list
with witch you can enter various lumber types/sizes/lengths and get board
footage/price estimate or use as a list for sending out to lumber yards for
pricing etc. There are some quirks which still need work but it gets the job
done for me. I would love to get your feedback, input & fresh ideas for
improvement. I'm far from any kind of programmer but I do enjoy playing with
Excel and trying to figure it out. The SQU column is used for inputting your
various types of lumber, I have tried to keep it simple and intuitive as
possible. The Material List page is where the information for the SQU's is
stored, and changed or updated. For your pricing to be any good current
market prices need to be kept updated, not always easy if the market is
volatile. Anyway, the SQU's can be referenced (or printed out) on the
Material List page and the system is easy to learn...
DF24 = Doug. Fir 2 X 4 (for lineal footage)
DF2410 = Doug. Fir 2 X 4 X 10
DF2818 = Doug. Fir 2 X 8 X 18
CDX12 = 1/2" CDX plywood
etc...
Check it out see what you think, maybe this isn't what your after, feel free
to ask questions. Again, I would love to get your input and here about what
your trying to do yourself.
Good luck,
Bob Davis

Hi Mark,
Bob's, of course, is a better match for what you asked for
specifically -- working with lumber, but you might find the following of
interest, also.

You can find some macros for conversions in an example spreadsheet.
Look for "feet-inch.xls" download at
http://www.steel-link.com/downloads/free.html This site is about tools
and references for steel fabricating and detailing. Has AutoCad files,
bolt calculation program, some fonts, things of interest to those
working with steel.

Dear Mr. Davis and Mark. I'm an engineering student also searching for a Lumber Takeoff spreadsheet. Would it be possible to provide me with your worksheets/spreadsheets? I would appreciate your help very much. My email is david...@gmail.com

Thank you,
