I like WP much better than Word but I have created many databases in
Access and would like to be able to do merges using WP and Access. I
have been told I can do this by installing the ODBC driver which comes
with MS Office. However, it is nowhere to be found.

I have MS Office Pro installed on my PC however, I want to install the
ODBC driver so that I may use MS Access files in a mail merge in WP 7.
My problem is... where the hell is the driver?

I've tried starting MS Office setup and the add/remove component, but it
is not listed under anything I found. the only help the installa tion
book gives is on page 22

"If users will use SQL databases, they must run the Open Database
Connectivity (ODBC) Setup program to install the ODBC driver and add a
data source for each database of the type that they want to access.
They can do this as part of the installation process or at a later
time."

BUT it doesn't tell you how to do it at a later time or ever where the
ODBC driver or Setup program is!!

Can anyone help me out? My copy of MS Office Pro is on 24 diskettes, so
and I have searched through every single one and my C: drive for the
ODBC.inf (driver) with no luck!

Thank you,

Sarah Morris

This is a bit of a long shot because there is so many things you may
need to know - or it may be very simple. Firstly the driver you want
is actually installed with Excel, but you have to ask for it when you
install - "typical installation" does not. . At this stage use the
SETUP icon in your MS Office program groups. Go to add/remove and make
sure you have included all the excel components (there is msquery and
the addin (library item) for ODBC/data) - there is also a list of
drivers - including SQL if you need it.

These drivers are universal and you will find an icon ODBC in the
control panel of win 3.1 and ODBC 32bit in settings of win 95 and NT4.
With these you can add drivers (from disk or CD) and - most important
- tell the ODBC register about databases you want to use. Excel makes
this a lot easier. Any modern WP worth its salt can easily connect to
odbc. When you specify a file in mailmerge there is usually an option
called something like DATA or DATABASE rather than file.

From here you are own your own - ho help files - no sensible manual
chapters BUT believe me, to do straightforward things is usually easy.

Best of luck
