I have a spreadsheet which somebody requires modifying by
merging and centering some cells. I've checked that the
cells aren't locked.

The file is shared between 2 users, and both have Full
Control of it. Anyone any ideas, as I'm stumped with it.

Thanks in advance
Simon

So what is the problem? You do not state the specific problem if
there is one, what you have done to try to solve it, nor the results
you saw when/if you tried. Did you try unchecking the boxes in
Format>Cells>Alignment? Or is that what you are after? BTW, you can
put a check in the Locked box and it has no effect unless the sheet
is protected; it has nothing to do with "unmerging" cells. It does
not have any effect unless the sheet is protected

The problem is, as in the subject line, that the ability
to "Merge And Center" is greyed out on the toolbar, and in
Format>Cells>Alignment, "Merge Cells" is greyed out.
there is nothing to uncheck in Format>Cells>Alignment. I
have been through all the menus to see if there was
anything that could solve it, but I couldn't find anything.

I realise that locked cells have no effect unless the
sheet is protected.

Turn off sharing (Tools | Share Workbook).
Modify the cells (and any other modificatons needed).
Turn sharing back on.

Because Excel tracks changes that both users make to a cell, you
cannot merge cells while the workbook is shared, since one of those
cell references will disappear.

Hope this will work.
