formatting a number (indian Rs.)

The MS Excel does not give any option under formatting for getting an amount as per indian currency.
i.e. if i want to write 10,44,502.20(in indian currency format) I can only get 1,044,502.20, which is the international format.

Could you tell me how can i solve my problem . I use MS Excel 97.

I'm not familiar with this format, but a search in Google for "indian" and
"format" (all words) showed quite a few articles. I suggest you try that:

Create a custom format.

For lakhs, the custom format code should look like this:

##","##","###

For crores, it should be:

##","##","##","###
