I have a list of names and payments for each person. Most people are
listed more than once. I am trying to auto sum each person so there's
only one value person.

Any suggestions as to how to do this?

example:
Kendra $750.00
Kendra $375.00
Tyeisha $495.00
Tyeisha $247.50
Daniel $750.00
Daniel $750.00
Daniel $750.00
Joshua $750.00
Yolanda $750.00
Yolanda $750.00
Akiesha $750.00
Jessica $750.00
Jessica $750.00
Rodarial $750.00
Rodarial $750.00

Data>Subtotals

Make sure you have a Title for each column.........Name........Amount

At each change in name.....sum.......add subtotal to........amount

Click on the 2 from the 123 to see only each person's subtotal.

Gord,

Thank you for your response. I'm having some trouble understanding what
you are saying to do. I'm not an excell expert by any means so I
apologize. Could you explain more how you are saying to do this?

Expert status not necessary to use Data>Subtotals

Assuming your two columns are A and B

Insert a row at top.

In A1 enter the title......"name".........no quotes
In B1 enter the title......"amount".......no quotes

Select A1

On your main menu bar(or ribbon if using 2007 version of Excel) you
will see Data.

Click on that and select Subtotal.

A dialog box will show.....

First line is "at each change in"......you select "name"
Second line is "use function".........you select "Sum"
Third line is "add subtotal to"..........you select "amount"

Keep or remove the checkmark in "Summary below data".........your
choice.

Click OK

You will now have a new column at left of Column A

Note the + and - signs............they are there for you to expand or
collapse the list.

Note the 123 across top of this new column.

Click on 2 to see just the unique names and their totals.

Play with 123 to see expansion or collapse of data.

To remove the column and subtotals click on Data>Subtotals>Remove All
