Greyed out data in excel ledger

Hope the knowledge base can help me! I'm trying to solve a problem with my ledger. Most of the data is in the ledger format, however, I have a series of rows which are greyed out & I can't sort or add data. It is driving me nuts as I have tried to select all & copy & paste but the problem is still occurring. I have used the Help function in excel but this topic is not covered. I then thought to try in OpenOffice but, same thing, any copying duplicates my problem. What am I not doing or doing wrong?
