1. I have a chart which has two data series wose values are very much
similar. Of course that means that one line overlays the other.
I now want to change the formatting of one of the series to an area and
to give it a marker, so that it's clear where its values are.

However, in Excel for MAC I cannot find a way to select the series as
its data points in the chart area are obscured by the other series.

Is there any way to 'tab' through the series one my one?

2. I would also like to be able to slant the X-axis labels by say 45
degrees (like I was able to in Excel for Win), so that they take less
vertical space

3. I have a time column that is used as labels for the X-axis
(format mm/dd/yy hh:mm:ss, concerted to internal time by excel's
import from the CSV file)

Sadly when I create the chart, this interprets it as date, and that
only creates one value per day. I have 8 values per day
(0,3,6,9,12,15,18,21 hours). Thus, all values for one day are aligned
and I miss the variation within the day.

I have to change the chart to interpret the x-axis as 'text' to get
a different data point for each day, but that means that if my rows
are not continuous (like I have a gap of a day or a few hours in the
input data) it will not adjust the graph to make up for the missing
data.

How can I make Excel interpret the X-axis labels as timestamps with
a finer granularity that 1 day (say per hour)? I don't need major
tick/label per hour, but it should not equalise the values between
the major (per day) labels.

any help is appreciated

Hi,

Which version of Excel are you using 2004 or 2008? Try this click on the
chart and press the left or right or up or down arrow keys observing what
portion of the chart is selected. I believe there is an indicator on
screen, not on the chart, which tells you what is selected as you move. When
you land on the correct item change its chart type.

Another alternative is to zoom to 400%
