Hello,

At work Excel 95 is saying the disk is full when overwriting some
files, can anyone explain this? If I erase the same file on the
floppy disk, then it will allow me to save it

This happens on more than one computer here with certian files, so I
think the glitch is with the program. We are using Microsoft Office
Professional 95.

If anyone can help, please reply via e-mail: nateg...@ids.net

Thanks

I suspect from your post, that you are meaning a floppy disk is full. This
is because XL saves a temporary copy of the file before deleting the source,
so effectively you have a file that you have loaded from a floppy of say
.75MB. When you do a save XL saves the temporary copy as a random number
file (e.g.. 12345.xls) and finally when it is saved, the last action is to
rename it as the original file name. This means that technically, you must
have room for both files. 2X.75MB=1.5MB=Disk Full!!

To overcome this, copy the file from the Floppy to your hard drive, work
away to your hearts content, delete the original from the floppy and do a
final 'save as' back to the floppy to transport it to another machine.

I have lost far too many important files through corrupt floppies, with the
awful "Cannot read from drive A" error. The above action lessens the risk.
Be warned <g>
