Hi,

We are having problems with excel on several pc's. The last couple of days,
several users complained that excel did not save their changes even though
they clicked the save button several times. Anyone had the same problem ?
Any suggestions ?

Bob,
If this is on a network, check each persons' "My Documents" file on their
computer.
It may be there. Next time have the user select "Save As" the first time and
direct excel where to save and as what.

Hi we are experiencing the same issues however we were having these
exact problems before we moved to SAN as well. In addition now we
have an issue when you click save in excel it goes through the
motions
normally. When you open the file there are not any of the changes
included however there is a numbered file in the directory with no
file extension. Our environment is still Excel / Office 2000

If your network is subject to frequent "hits".......excel files opened from
the network cannot be saved back to it.

I don't understand frequent "Hits" Further investigation has shown
that excel creates the temporary file then upon trying to delete the
original it is not able to. If the user selects "save as" and saves
to the same network drive they are able to save.

A "hit" is an interruption of service, or connection. This is more frequent
in smaller companies where formal rules of accessing the service are not
established, and patching or switching or "testing" of lines can happen at
any time. To test, put the file on a local hard drive and work it and save
it several times and see if you experience the same difficulties........if
it works ok this way, talk to the MIS folks about minimizing the hits......
