saving to xls in excel 2007

having an issues.
have workbook "wb1" with worksheet "ws1" as an .xls file
i open wb1, create a new worksheet "ws2". input simle data in ws2.
i save wb1, still .xls.
ws2 data replaces ws1 data, ws2 disappears.
have workbook "wb1" with worksheet "ws1" as an .xls file

i save wb1, still .xls.
ws2 data replaces ws1 data, ws2 disappears.
if i open wb1, save as xlsx and do the same, there is no issues.
