Background:
XL2K SR-1. I'm trying to work out how to change the default set of
info that a tooltip presents when the mouse cursor is placed over an
individual data point in a chart.
Example:
Lets say we have a stock HLC type chart that present 3 data series
plotted againts dates. The chart legend will provide the info that
Series 1, 2 & 3 are plotted in the chart, but I want it turned off to
save space.
The tooltip will present the info in the format, say :
Series 1 Point "01/17/2002" Value 176
and
Series 2 Point "01/17/2002" Value 160
and
Series 3 Point "01/17/2002" Value 166
when the mouse cursor is moved over the data marker for Jan. 17, 2002.
The problem is that if the Hi - Lo data marker is small it is not
clear from visual inspection that Series 1 represents the Hi, Series
2 the Lo and Series 3 the Close values.
Question:
Is there some way that the "Series n" field in the tooltip can be made
to say *specifically* what it represents? Thus the above tooltip e.g.
would end up as:
High Price Point "01/17/2002" Value 176
and
Low Price Point "01/17/2002" Value 160
and
Close Price Point "01/17/2002" Value 166
I suppose it comes down to somehow getting the tooltip to call up the
data column headers rather than simply defaulting to addressing the
data in each column as being Series 1, 2 & 3. If anyone can suggest a
solution I'd be most grateful.

I have a couple of routines on my web site that you might find
useful. I'd heard from the experts that you couldn't change the
ToolTips (and these are folks who could hack into the actual tool
tips rectangle window if it were possible), so I went to chart
events. These tell you point information if you click on a point,
but you could link the info to a mouse over instead of a mouse up,
and you could display the information in the statusbar or somewhere,
rather than in a message box that halts everything.
Check out this link:

Good luck,
