I would like to construct a pivot table based on data from two separate
ranges. Each has identical structure (column order and column headings and
data types etc.) but different number of rows.

When I use the pivot table wizard and the 'Multiple consolidation ranges'
option, I can combine the data from the two ranges but I do not have the
option to select which fields I want as my row fields, column fields and
data items. All I get is the first column being the row field and the rest
of the columns being column fields with no way removing them.

What am I doing wrong?

Is there a way to use to named ranges to combine into one pivot table
without having to cut one and paste it bwlow the other, thus making one
range?

Many thanks for whatever help I am going to get on this one.

Nothing.

That is how pivot tables on multiple consolidation ranges are designed to work.
There is no requirement that the column headings be the same or in the same
order in the underlying tables, which is why you have less flexibility in what
you can do with them.

I don't believe so.
