Is it possible to have 2 charts, side by side, sharing the same X
(horizontal) axis, and both using the same X axis, though only the leftmost
chart is actually beside the vertical axis? Can anyone tell me if this is
possible, and point me in the right direction to get started in figuring out
how to do it? (Or tell me what to look up in Help)? Many thanks.

In article <u5dYj8EB$GA.278@cppssbbsa04>,

When you say 2 charts side by side - I assume you mean you want to
share the Y (vertical) axis with only the leftmost chart "showing" the
axis. Typically, you show the Y axis line and tick marks on both
charts but only show the axis numbering and axis label on the left.
Each chart would have its own independant X axis but, of course, you
could scale them to be the same if you wish. The *trick* is to have
each chart perfectly sized and aligned.

To do this you want both charts embedded on a single worksheet. I
would decline to use the chart axis labels, you can do your own
labeling with textboxes "outside" the chart objects.

1) Prepare both charts with the same chart elements including the Y
axis on both. Format and show the same Y axis numbering on both and,
of course, the exact same scale values. Don't worry about or aligning
the charts at this point.

2) Make sure the "Plot Area" of both charts is maximized within the
chart object. Use the mouse to drag the upper right and lower left
corners of each chart object to maximize the plot areas size.

3) Set each chart objects background color to "Automatic" (default)
or "White".

4) Set the chart objects Properties_Object positioning to "Move but
don't size with cells".

5) Make sure the worksheets row heights and column widths are all
equal - you will be using cells as a "snap to" grid for your chart
objects.

6) Align your left most chart to some particular cell by first holding
the <alt> key down then dragging the chart with the mouse. This gives
the "snap to" cell effect.

7) Align the "right" chart next to the left chart using the same "snap
to" trick. If both charts cover the same number of cells - they are
the *exact* same size.

8) Both charts are now side by side, perfectly aligned, with both Y
axis numbering showing. Make sure the "Drawing" toolbar is showing.
Using the "Draw" pointer, select the left chart. Make sure the
leftmost chart is on top by executing Draw_Order_Bring to Front from
the "Drawing" toolbar.

9) Both chart objects are "attached" to column borders. Using the
mouse, grab the left column border of the "right" chart and drag it
underneath the left chart till you "cover" the axis numbering of the
right chart.

10) Use external text boxes to label your X and Y axis.

11) Select "lasso" everything with the Draw pointer and execute a
Draw_Group to glue the whole mess together.
