This seems like a basic question, but is it possible to change the
width of chart tables or series labels? I can select the label text
boxes, but I can't resize the text boxes.

>From searching the forum, it appears that for some reason Excel doesn't
let you change the widths?!

Any creative solutions?

Thanks.

You could delete the built in chart text elements (chart title, axis titles,
data labels) and insert text boxes instead. Select the chart before clicking
on the text box button, so the text box becomes part of the chart, not just
another floating graphic element.

Thanks. Adding text boxes is a work-around even though it's a bit
tedious.

Is there anyway to lock the text boxes to individual pieces of a pie?

Any ideas on why Excel won't let you resize the chart / data labels?
They put the little sizing boxes on the text box just to tease you...

You want to have your pie and eat it too?

I think the text elements have been essentially unchanged for so long,
probably since Excel 5 or earlier, back when textboxes weren't so capable as
now. I don't recall exactly, but I believe the text elements in Excel 2007
charts still do not allow resizing.

A quick test has confirmed my suspicion that Excel 2007 still does not allow
resizing of a chart's text elements.

Nice pun about eating pie. :)

Dissapointing you can't resize in 2007. Maybe there's some reason for
the limitation ... OR then again, maybe not.

Thanks for checking in to it. I guess manual text boxes are the way
to go...

The reason for it in 2003 is that in 97, the last time they updated it, they
didn't implement sizable boxes for titles and labels. In 2007, I think the
reason is they didn't have time.
