Charts do not update

Well, I hadn't noted this problem in any of my own workbooks until yesterday.

My workbook has some ranges that update whenever the worksheet recalculates,
because their formulas include RAND(). There are a number of worksheet-level
complex named ranges, and only one chart. The chart has only around 8 series,
but some of them have data labels linked to worksheet cells, and these cells
have formulas like ="UCLx="&TEXT(A1,"0.00"). There's also a worksheet_change
procedure that adjusts the chart axis scales. The only thing that doesn't
update in the entire worksheet and chart are these data labels. If I select
each label, click in the formula bar, and press Enter, the label updates, but
then it retains this value until I repeat the manual update procedure.

I've often answered these posts with reminders to set calculation to
Automatic, and basic things like that. Later today I will build a new copy
of this workbook to see if that helps. If anyone has come across a more
profound solution, please post it.

Thanks,

- Jon

Jon,

Forgive me from wandering away from PowerPoint, but does this help?

kbbug KB186461

Else, there is another on I will chase up that I know of as it happened
here. It more is more general to XL.

Hey, thanks for stopping by. 186461 didn't apply, but while checking it out I
also input my own keywords and found this article that described the problem
exactly:

XL97: Chart Data Labels That Are Linked to Formulas Are Not Updated
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;182999

It's supposed to have been fixed in xl97-sr2, but that's what I'm running.
But the article assures me that Ctrl-Alt-F9 will force a total update.

We shouldn't feel bad about spending time in each others' news group. We can
learn and help each other, while we smash cultural barriers and all that happy
nonsense. I'm glad to accept help from wherever it is available.
