Hello everybody:

I am working on my thesis and came across this problem:  I need to generate an excel chart that has color distribution.  In other words, how do I generate a chart that has color gradient with 2 colors?  This generated graph is going to be used in another program which will be mouse sensitive and will detect the saturations (well, that is another story..... )

To better explain the problem, I had  included an example graph in my previous posting (created in excel + powerpoint + paintbrush ), but some of my friends were unable to read the message.  Therefore, I am providing a link below, so that you can look it up and get the exact pictute of what we are trying to solve.

Thank you all in advance.

Probably depends on the type of graphic you will be using later. You could fill the object behind the line.  this would show above the curve, too. Ungroup the chart and select the object in Excel or Power Point. This type of fill may not be acceptable for what you want, however. i.e smooth transition.
I don't remember Excel having the capability to just do the area under the curve. I would be possible to export the chart to a bitmap, and auto trace that area into a vector object. You should be able to fill the object and place it behind the curve, and in front of the background object.
If you want to end up with a raster image, I would scale the chart to the using size, and make it a bitmap image. Then use an auto mask function to select the area, and apply a gradient fill. R

[This followup was posted to microsoft.public.excel.charting and a copy
was sent to Jacob Cherian <jche...@ttacs.ttu.edu>.]

I'm not sure of what your requirements for post-processing and,
consequently, I will restrict myself to Excel's capability.

Create an area chart. Double click it. In the Patterns tab click the
button Fill Effects... In the Fill Effects dialog box, in the Gradient
tab, in the Colors section, select 2 colors.

Some unsolicited advice: If you need help, stick to the established
norms. Explain the problem in a text-only posting. Don't make your
life easy by saying "look at the attached file" or "look at my web
site." That imposes a cost on those who might be inclined to help you.
Actually, the first imposes a *significant* cost on even those who may
not be able to help you!

Typically, I don't invest *my* resources looking up other peoples' web
sites just so that I can help *them*. Not only does it cost me time,
but it leaves me vulnerable to the occasional (rare?) malicious soul who
might use some capability of the web server to breach the security of my
computer.

An additional benefit of describing your problem, as someone pointed out
to me, is that the very act of writing up the problem might lead to you,
yourself, figuring out the solution.
