Incrementally number a field in an Excel 2007 template

I have an Excel 2007 template that will be used by several people in my
division.

This template is a one page work request form that has a field called "Work
Request Number" that needs to increase by one each time the template is
opened.

The file will be placed on a shared drive on our network.

I have read many posts that come close to what I'm looking for but seem to
all be about the single use type of template, i.e. the person creating the
template uses it by themselves. I need one that is for multiple people on a
network drive.
