When you push the update button on Encarta 2009 the error message come back
as no internet connection, suggestion is you go to the update site and copy
the files you require to your updates folder, that fine its a shortcut. When
you click on the shortcut you get an error message 404 site does not exist.
Whats up with that I have the last 2 updates to download, the last one was
put on the site Jan 20, 2009 probably the Inaugural stuff.

HOW DO I GET MY UPDATES?

I had the same problem.
I believe it has to do with the .net framework. I was able to fix this by
going to windows update. My computer needed .net framework update. After I
installed the update, Encarta’s update feature started working fine.
I hope this helps.

Note that there seems to be a bug where if you have the Encarta "Toolbar"
active (where you can type in a word at any time in the box near the clock),
the updates don't work. I found a pattern where I have to shut this toolbar
down (rt click on clock in systray and go to "Toolbars" to turn off the
Encarta toolbar) and reboot the machine in order to get the updates to work.

I reported this to MS tech support a few times over the last several months,
but as far as I can tell it's still an issue, and I never received the
followup contact I was promised.

For some reason, it seems like there is very little MS support for Encarta
2009. The main Encarta page on the MS site still lists the 2008 version and
does not mention the 2009 version. You have to go to the MS "Student" page
(i.e. the "learning center") just to see that a newer version of Encarta
exists.

It's strange because I succeded downloading the first three updates (on
a total of eight) and not the others. If it was a problem of .net
framework I could not download any of the updates....

I know its been over a year since the last reply, however I found information
that MS encarta was discontinued and seems to be the reason why the updates
won't work.

Anyone know if MS have a site where you can install individual updates, at
least the most recent ones.

Cheers
