Hi, I know this question has been asked, but i cannot seem to find any follow-up..

When trying to install I get "error 1304 error writing to Microsoft.Vsa.dll verify you have access to that directory"

When I run cacls %windir% I get:

BUILTIN\Users:R
BUILTIN\Users:(OI)(CI)(IO)(special access:)
GENERIC_READ
GENERIC_EXECUTE

BUILTIN\Power Users:C
BUILTIN\Power Users:(OI)(CI)(IO)C
BUILTIN\Administrators:F
BUILTIN\Administrators:(OI)(CI)(IO)F
NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM:F
NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM:(OI)(CI)(IO)F
BUILTIN\Administrators:F
CREATOR OWNER:(OI)(CI)(IO)F

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I need to install a program that requires .NET Framework 1.1 to be installed.

Thanks,

CJ

I have been trying for the last 4 night to get it to work and I finally did. It was simple. .net 1.1 requires
MDAC 2.7 or higher. I installed MDAC 2.8, rebooted, started the install and everything went fine.

Good Luck!

Hi

From a previous thread:

Hi Tom,

One possible cause is that there are Framework residuals on the disk.
Please try the following steps to manually remove the residuals:

1. deleted C:\Windows\assembly
2. deleted C:\Windows\Microsoft .NET
3. deleted C:\Windows\System32\mscoree.dll
4. deleted C:\Windows\System32\URTTemp
5. deleted all MSI's in C:\Windows\Installer that had to do with .NET
6. verified that no residual registry keys were present

Also, check this Knowledge Base article for more information:

PRB: Installation of .NET Framework Fails and Requires Manual Removal
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;320112

In addition, I saw a case in which the problem was fixed by running a
repair installation of Windows.

Hope this helps.

Regards,

Felix Wu
