Does anyone know the exact executable file of the emulator used in VS.NET ?
Sometimes, I want to open the emulator without opening VS.NET.

Thanks.

You can find the vs.net emulator in this directory: \Program Files\Microsoft
Visual Studio .NET 2003\CompactFrameworkSDK\ConnectionManager\Bin, assuming
you used default install options. Be aware that you have to pass
emulator.exe parameters, like the Windows CE kernel you want to boot into
it. To find a list of paramters start a command prompt and type "emulator
/help". With the correct parameters you should be able to create a shortcut
for it. You might also want to take a look at the Windows CE.NET 4.2 device
emulator. I have not done so myself, but perhaps that could be an
alternative for you. You can find it here:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/embedded/community/downloads/default.asp.

<VS.Net Install
Directory>\CompactFrameworkSDK\ConnectionManager\Bin\Emulator.exe
NOTE:
You will need to start the emulator with command line arguments. See the
emulator help (Emulator.chm in the same directory as the emulator) section
"Emulator Command-Line Launch Options". Make a shortcut to the emulator exe
file, and then modify the Target.

Hi,

I've been able to launch the Emulator.
However, each time it loads, it loses all of its last state even though I
chose "Save Emulator State" when shutting it down.

The command line options I'm specifying are:

/CEImage Images\PocketPC\2002\1033\PPC2002.bin /skin
Images\PocketPC\2002\1033\ppc2002.xml /Video 240x320x16 /Ethernet true

Am I missing any options in the command line ?
Oh, btw, is the option "/Ethernet true" correctly set ?

Thanks.

I think that is everything. Your command line is the same as the one that I
use, but you are right - the emulator does not save the state when I close
either and I don't know what is going on there.

> Oh, btw, is the option "/Ethernet true" correctly set ?

Yes, this is set correctly. If you can't connect to the Internet then you
will need to go to Start->Settings->Connections [tab]->Connections, then
where it says "My network card connects to:" change the dropdown value to
"The Internet".

So, any Microsoft engineer out there ? please show us how to make the
emulator save states ?
Everytime I launch the emulator, I have to change the emulator Device ID in
order to connect to my desktop.

thanks Alex,

this is exactly what I'm looking for.
I'm really surprised that the option /VMID is not documented.
