Hi:

I've been using Visual Studio for awhile and suddenly I "trashed" my
desktop. I don't know what I did but I can't get the solution explorer and
properties windows on the right of the screen as I would like. When I dock
either of them they become full screen and I can't move them where they
belong.

Is there some kind of a "master reset" or a way to put things back together.
If I exit and re-enter the development environment things are (naturally) as
they were when I left.

I'm sure that this is an easy question - all help would be GREATLY
appreciated!

Thanks,

Fred

Sorry not to be of help, but (in anticipation of student activities) I
certainly hope there is a "master reset" thingie as well. I never cease to
be amazed at how students can mess up VB6 to the point where we have to
reinstall.

Running devenv /setup from the command line will recreate your windows
layout file as well as perform some other "reset" type tasks.
Thanks,

My solution for VB 6 was to save the registry for the VB 6 IDE after a clean
install. If I student messed things up too badly I just invoked the registry
export file I had saved. This was much easier (and faster) then doing a
reinstall.

From the Tool menu pick Options. There is a button labeled Reset Window
Layout on the General->Environment option. That should put most things back.

Thanks for that one, Alfred. Never occurred to me.
I'll pass it on to our lab/classroom support folks.

Alfred:

Thanks very much for the help with Tools/Options/Reset Window! I had the
desktop "almost" recovered to where it should be and this completed the job.

Thanks again,

Fred

Agreed, and that's why students here receive a free basic VB6 CD with their
textbook to install on their home PC's. They are encouraged to experiment
there to their hearts' content.
However, in classrooms and labs, where PC's must be available to *all*, they
are told not to fiddle with application configuration settings so PC's are
not rendered useless to others. Sort of like asking them not to doodle in
library books.
