(My apologies if this has been asked and answered. I tried to search, both
in the web version and the nntp version, but did not find much. I also
posted to microsoft.public.win2000.multimedia but have had no answer; and I
suspect this might be a better forum anyway.}

I recently installed DirectX 9.0b on a W2K computer. When I first ran
dxdiag, it asked me if I wanted to verify whql signatures. I said no. Now
I want to, but I don't seem to be able to reset that option. (Setting the
"whql"
option on the opening page does not seem to have any effect.) Can I? How?
Thank you.

Hi Alex,
Here is how you do.
Start -> Run -> Type "dxdiag /whql:on"
,which allow dxdiag to check for WHQL digital signatures.
If you type "dxdiag /help", you can get help on switch options.

Alex,

Rest assured that setting the "whql" option on the opening page will cause
dxdiag to verify whql signatures next time you launch it even though dxdiag
doesn't ask if you wanted to verify whql signatures. You could also launch
it as "dxdiag /whql:on" . You get the whql prompt only if dxdiag doesn't
find the registry key
"HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\DirectX Diagnostic Tool\Allow WHQL
Checks". This reg key is created the very first time you launch dxdiag on a
dx9 system.

If you delete this registry key, then launch dxdiag, it'll then ask if you
want to verify whql signatures. But there's no need of doing this.

Regards,

Moses

Akiko;

Thank you for replying. It works as you say. Interestingly, I notice no
Internet activity when I run with WHQL Checking on, but perhaps the required
certificates are already loaded, etc. Again, thanks.

Registry Key, and got the prompt back, the first time. Again, thanks.
