problem installing directx 9.0c

i have xp pro sp2, but dont know if its a beta, seems to be one, because i
tried to setup directx 9.0c over the 9.0b, no problem appeared except that
the setup is way too fast, then it says everything ok, setup complete, i
reboot, and when i run any application ru nning under 9.0c, it says that i am
still running an older version.....and the dxdiag said i have the
9.0b.....how can i install it.
