MS Wireless Desktop Elite Keyboard - Shift Key Issues

My shift key on the above keyboard has started to act like the control key
and I'm not sure how this happened or what I can do to fix it - does anyone
have any suggestions?

Currently I cannot access uppercase letters (without turing Caps Lock on) or
symbols etc. Any suggestions for fixes would be greatly appreciated as this
has been going on for days now despite numerous re-starts, amending
accessibility settings on the keyboard as well as reinstalling the software.
Help!
