Hi,
Thought I would post this again as no one seems to have taken any notice
of the last one. I have posted this on the Private MS System Builder
newsgroups, but MS don't seem to want/ are able to help. If anyone has any
Ideas how to fix this I would really appreciate it as I have around 45
Customers computers that are affected by this problem and I am getting it
in the neck from them. I have tried using a program called DirectX Buster to
uninstall DX but it just doesn't seem to get everything out . Please
Heeeelp! :o)

I keep getting this problem and it appears to be stopping my computer
from running any D3D application. I have tried most things to fix it. After
reading through some of the other posts in here I have also checked my DDI
version (8) ... anyone with any ideas??

I just built a new AMD system with an ASUS GF3 Ti500 card and an ASUS
Av7266E MB. I'm using Win XP. I'm getting the same message and just spent
two useless hours with MS tech support trying to fix it. They are clueless
on this one. We reloaded drivers, reinstallled DirectX, etc., all to no
avail. The problem popped up when I tried to run MS Flight Simulator 2002
and got a message saying that it would run in software 3D since there was no
HW accelerator in the system which, of course, is nonsense. Funny thing,
though, I get the same message on my 2 year old Micron PIII system with Win
XP and a Viper card. So, I think it's some kind of a Direct X problem
because, while the System Information program recognizes the video RAM, DX
seems to ignore it, thus the "out of memory" message. I hope some genius
figures this one out.....

I have the same problem !!, It started yesterday. Someone is messing
with us - either nVidia (GeForce2 drivers) or Microsoft (directx).
Something must be done FAST.

I had the same exact problem. I managed to solve it. I was amazed of
the cause - NetMeeting !!!. I assume you are running Win2K (pro or
server). On of the recent MS updates, update a file which completely
scrow up the directx graphics. I assume it also uses DirectDraw for
the video. If you can care less about NetMeeting, do what I did - I
downgraded it to 2.11. You cannot reinstall 3.01 on Win2K, but 2.11
you can. Download it from :
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/netmeeting/download/nm211x86.asp.
Duering installation Win2K complain that some system DLLs are being
overwrite. Don't warry about those messages and cancel them. These are
probably the DLLs which cause the problem to begin with. After
installation launch NetMeeting to make sure it works and is
registered. Go back to you DX diag utility and find out that every
thing works like a charm.

Good luck,

Meni.

Thanks Meni,

I had the same Direct3D HRESULT = 0x8007000e error and was running
NetMeeting's Remote Desktop Sharing. After turning that off, it
worked perfectly!!! I didn't have downgrade NM, just had to disable
RDS. LOL, WHO WOULDA THOUGHT... DANG MICROSHAFT!!

Thanks Again Meni!

I ran right into this with the latest updates using a geforce2 and a
geforce3 on two different systems - one advanced server 2k, the other
professional 2k - one via 733p3, the other 440bx dp 600p3 - totally
different h/w, same 23.11 nvidia driver and ms updates... symptoms
were similar in that h/w directdraw acceleration went away - sandra
2002 reported no h/w overlay, could not get any dvd player to access
the overlay, nvidia advanced display tab would not allow overlay
access...

I managed to get the DP machine to work after messing with netmeeting
a bit - not clear what got changed, but when it worked, everything
suddenly started working again - but I could not get the UP 733
machine working until reading your post - clicked, reinstalled 2.11,
and wammo - overlay works like a champ...

One other odd sypmtom was that NM would hang when selecting
tools/options and had to be killed in the taskmgr. Now the 2.11
options are ok. On the DP system I managed to disable netmeeting
using the management console/services, but even after the graphics
overlay is ok, NM still hangs at options (which is where remote
desktop sharing is config'd...).

I imagine Microsoft and nVidia are having some discussions about now -
it can't have escaped them...

see the following articles on MSDN
Q191660 Err Msg: Could Not Find Any 3D Acceleration Hardware...
Q249867 Loss of Direct3D Support After Improperly Quitting NetMeeting 3.01
Q260565 Remote Desktop Sharing Disables Direct3D Functionality
Q268330 Games: Screen Turns White and Game Hangs or Quits

so, there are known issues with the current Netmeeting and Direct3D.

Q260565 states this is by design, so I suspect there will have to be a new
product that provides Netmeeting functionality before this issue is
resolved.

This worked at my computer, first try! Thank you, newsgroup contributors!

===>>> Netmeeting: Remote Desktop Sharing: Activate.

This solved the problem! In DxDiag, every single acceleration button went
enabled again. They are still enabled after I deactivated RDS back. My card
is a GeForce 2 MX.

Thanks again!

to add to your savoring of my praise,
I wanted you to know just how much you saved me.
I had the following installed over the past year:
VisualStudio6.0 with VB,C,InstallShield, interdev and other parts
SQL Server Manager
Photoshop
imageready
flash4 and 5
truespace
publisher2000
3d studio max3 and 4
office
real slideshow
real producer(which had problems with the directx thing too)
windows media encoder
real player plus
real jukebox plus
xq X-Setup tweaker
adobe atmosphere
adobe premier
soundblaster live 5.1 software
ge force2 ti vid card
an assortment of cakewalk audio software
guitar tracks software
2 printers
a scanner,
a capture card with tv vcr and camera
a bunch more i cant remember at this moment
and a host of games...lots of games.avp2,hl,cs,klingon academy,
wolfenstein,ms combat flight sim1 and 2 to name a few
So I wouldn't even begin to know where to start looking for problems with
the directx because my route takes me over my software collection every 2
months or so. I run this whole business from this computer (7 servers behind
it)
Thanks so much for taking time to make that message I am probably the most
appreciative I've been in awhile!
