INTERNAL SYSTEM ERROR OCCURRED

Hi

I have downloaded the latest version of DirectX I could find AUGUST 2008,
and attempted to install it. I get an error message ~ INTERNAL SYSTEM ERROR
OCCURRED refer to DxError.log and DirectX.log in your windows folder to
determine problem.

I have looked and the response in both logs were : Current DirectX may be a
older version which does not have the version value in the registry.

I don't know what to do - can someone please help me.
