Unable to launch copy of Championship Manager

I am unable to launch a copy of CM, a message appears everytime I try to do
so. The message is:

Direct 3D failed to initialise-please ensure you have a Direct 3D compatible
Driver and card.

Can someone explain what to do as when it comes to the technical bits about
computers im a bit of a chump.
