can they be avoided by any techniques e.g. using larger apertures/ different

also can there be a reason this didn't happen for 6 months, a few times then
nothing now almost all the time?

I used to get the spots frequently at little
league games when the sun was opposite
where I was sitting. Sometimes I could
even see them on the LCD. Move to a
different seat...different angle...fewer spots.
And...keep the lens as clean as possible.

Dust accumulates.
Keep the lens as clean as possible...those
little wipes that people use to clean eyeglasses
are useful.

Sorry...I'm not aware of any scientific methods
for testing the dust theory. But I do know that
higher resolution cameras do not suffer from
the problem. Why...you ask? Because you
have more pixels in the same area which means
they are smaller which in turn means the spots
(even if they are still there) are smaller also
and are probably not noticable.
Bottom line IMHO....the purchase of a new
high resolution camera should solve the problem.
I bought a 10 MP Canon recently for $99.95...
so the prices are certainly within reason now.
Crash!!!
Ooops...I fell off of the soapbox.
