I've used Digital Imaging for several years and was extremely disappointed
when Microsoft stopped developing it. I've been trying to use PaintShopPro
for the past year or so but it just isn't as easy to use.

If it weren't for the fact that DI strips out IPTC metadata, I would stick
with it. Does anyone know of a program that has capability similar to
Digital Imaging's "Smart Erase" that will also preserve metadata?

Which version of MS Digital Image were you using?

I upgraded multiple times. The version on my machine right now is V11
(2006); which I think is the last one that was released.. Smart erase
really has me spoiled. Most programs have cloning tools but no one else
seems to have master smart erasing.

You have the best version and I'm not
aware of a comparable replacement.

If you want to keep the IPTC info you'll have to use something like
Adobe PhotoShop for editing to preserve it. You could always use Adobe
Bridge to replace the info. There are a few free programs that I have
run into that will allow you to edit the IPTC info. I'll have to dig
through my notes to see what I can come up with. There's also some
Microsoft app for "Pro photographers" that have some interesting tools.
