First...your project with text must be saved in an
image format.

You could make a cutout in MS Digital Image and
save it in the .gif format.

IrfanView might be easier...just open the saved
picture and go to...File / Save As...choose...GIF...
On the GIF save options pallette check the box...
save transparent color
click save
You will see a screen that allows you to left click
the color you wish to make transparent.

The canvas in DIS might look "white" but it is in fact transparent. It just
doesn't show as chequers like in PS. Saving in png or gif will retain the
transparency.
