ImageUnattended.xml is not used by WDS

I'm testing Server2008R2 and WDS to deploy W7 clients, for testing I
want to use the standard W7 x86 install.wim
i use the following wdsutil command:

X:\WDS>wdsutil /set-device /Device:W7EDV124 /BootImagePath:boot
\x86\images\boot.
wim /ID:2C20CCF254D8DE1182C878EC6EDC0D9E /
WdsClientUnattend:wdsclientunattend\Au
toUnattend_MiniSetup.xml /JoinDomain:Yes /Domain:PKI_WISS


in AutoUnattend_MiniSetup.xml i provide the following section

<ImageSelection>
<InstallImage>
<Filename>install.wim</Filename>
<ImageGroup>W7</ImageGroup>
<ImageName>Windows 7 ENTERPRISE</ImageName>
</InstallImage>

in the WDS Gui an ImageUnattend.xml is created in images\w7\install
\unattend

I have tried a lot of different things but the ImageUnattend is never
used

Has anyone any idea where teh problem is ?

Hi Raschner,

does it pass all sections are only some ?

you can check the WDS logfiles which are created during the PE/WDS setup
section. At any time where you are in PE mode you can open via an SHIFT+F10
an command prompt -> navigate to "X:\Windows\Panther". There are interesting
logfiles located and most usefull for me are setupacc.txt setuperr.txt.

Furthermore you can also activate diagnostic logging where you can more
details around what and why it is happening during the unantended section.

thank you for shift + F10
I think the unattend file is not used at all

i found an imageunattend.xml in c:
but this is not the one i have attached to the image.wim that is
installed
I'm really wondering from where it is copied and why it's not used

Can u check in WDS console GUI which unantended xml file is attached to your
WIM file ? Can you navigate to that folder and check if the xml file is
yours ?

PS : Do not manually copy the xml files into the folder structure of WDS
instead add it via WDSUTIL or GUI the wdsservice will automatically
copy/place it on the right location.

Hallo

it seems that if you use %MACHINENAME% for the computername ( to be
set to the
real computername by WDS ) and this can not be done ( really don't
know why ) the
imageunattend.xml is not used
The wohle deployment process is very critical for errors and does not
give you any idea
what goes wrong

if have reached now my first goal to deploy the standard W7 Enterprise
image X86
the 2 xml-Files ar attached beyond; I am going to deploy my own image
next
