1. I create a base image on the laptop, sysprep it and then Imagex /capture
to a thumb drive.
2. Copy the *.wim file to the WDS server in a Images folder.
3. Create an Install Group in WDS
4. Import the *.wim file into the Image Group
5. Create a Multicast session referencing the image group
6. PXE boot the Asus M2400N laptop.
7. Select the boot.wim
8. Provide the domain credentials.
9. No install images are listed.
This is the exact process I have used for the 11 other insall images and
they all work, even after I imported the image file for the Asus M2400N
laptop. It seems to be something specific to the M2400N. I also have other
computers with the Realtek 8139 chipset that work just fine so I am a little
hesitant to suspect the boot.wim.
When I go to device manager on the Asus M2400N laptop, under the Computer
Node, it says Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) PC andbut
when I run Imagex /info against the image I captured off of the laptop, it
shows <hal>acpipic_up</hal>,
I decided to check another model of computer, an Asus Z91N laptop, which
unlike the Asus M2400N, correctly shows all of the other images in the list
when I PXE boot to the WDS. I went to Device Manager and looked at the
CompuNode. It says ACPI Uniprocessor PC. When I do an Imagex /info on the
image captured from the Asus Z91N, it shows <hal>acpiapic_up</hal>
The HAL node info in the image seems correct for the two different HALs so I
would expect that the HAL filtering process on the WDS would be able to show
the image for the M2400N, but it does not.
I noticed that there is a Microsoft KB that talks about a similar issue but
related to Windows 2003 servr, http://support.microsoft.com/kb/935772. When I
browsed to that link from my Windows 2008 server, it didn't give me a
downloafd link because I believe that specific hot fix is for Windows 2003
server. I sent an email to Microsoft Customer Support with the details but
have not received an actual reply, just a generic "check these links"
auto-reply.
Does anyoen know if there is a hot fix for Windows Server 2008 WDS that
loosens the filter criteria to allow all images to display on the list, even
if the HAL doesn't match the client?
I really need to get this resolved. I sold the client on the idea of WDS
over Ghost but I am afraid I will have to go back to Ghost on this if I can't
get resolution. I have about 50 of these notebooks that need images.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Dave
Have you found any solution for this issue?
plz reply.
