We recently captured an image of a Server 2008 Enterprise R2 computer and
uploaded it to our WDS server. When we try to deploy it, it gets to the
"Installing updates" part and then we get the following error messages:

Operation failed with 0x80070002
The system cannot find the file specified.
(click OK)
Windows could not apply unattend settings during pass (null)

There are no unattend files applied to the image or in the Client tab of the
WDS server's properties. The WDS server is running Server 2008 Enterprise SP2
(not R2)

I have the exact problem and configuration. Did you find the answer/solution?

Thought you two and others would be interested in this:

Looks like the boot.wim needs to be replaced with either the win7 or 2008 r2
version. As I do remember that when I created the hard-drives on Windows
Server 2008 R2 image for capturing it created a system reserved partition.
Hope it works, going to try it now.

Quote from site:
"Frak... Tried it several times, but nogo. But then I remembered that when I
configured the drives no System Reserved partition was made.... a new feature
of Windows 7.... and that is something the boot..wim WinPE environment should
know. Yes, after installing the boot.wim from the Windows 7 DVD it all worked
like a charm! "

Will update if it works!

It worked! So all you need to do is create a new boot image from the boot.wim
on a Windows Server 2008 R2 disk and as it creates the system reserved
partition all works fine and I pushed through unattended settings and all
without issue.
