I can't seem to figure out how to capture a windows 2003 (or windows 2000)
image using WDS in Windows 2008. I've done the following:

1) Created a system to be imaged and ran
sysprep -quiet -reboot -mini -reseal
2) In the WDS interface I created a Windows PE boot image, and then right
clicked on it and set "Create Capture Boot Image"

However when I go to PXE boot the system I want to capture, and then select
the boot image in step 2, I am prompted to deploy a windows 2008 image not
capture!

I've disabled the Windows 2008 deployment image so I don't even know how or
why I am being prompted to install windows 2008. Can anyone offer some
pointers?

Thanks,
Brad

Sounds like you are close. Step 1 and Step 2 are correct. However,
when you complete step 2 you should have a new boot wim created on
file system, like "WDSCapture.wim". Go back into the WDS console and
add this as a boot.wim, give it description of "Capture Disk." Now
when a client performs a PXE request, you should see two boot
options.

You need ensure the capture wim you create is added to the boot images
section not the install images section.

Microsoft Longhorn X86 etc
Capture Disk

Select the Capture Disk, this should launch the capture wizard.

You should add the boot.wim to the Boot section of WDS, and as soon as you
added, open the Boot Image console, right click on that image and select
"Create Capture Boot Image". That way this new booteable image will be a
capturing image instead of a deployment.

Hope it helps

Cheers

capture wizard sees only the partitions that have been prepared with Sysprep, try those steps as I think it solves the problem out
