Can you use WMIC.EXE from WinPE?

Is there any way to use WMIC.EXE from a WinPE boot CD?

I tried running wmic.exe from a winPE disk, but it will not work.
What it does is simply ignore the command and go right back to the
command line.

I beleive I have copied all the files that it would need to work, but
it just does not. Not even an error, it's like I just hit the Enter
key at the X:\ prompt under PE.

I really need WMIC.EXE to work because my batch file uses it to
determine what hardware the batch file is being run in, which then
makes different choices based on what wmic finds.

If anybody has any suggestions, I would appreciate it!
