I'm having trouble with outlook, it won't send email.

I've had this problem about 6 times now, nothing helped so far unless I
installed the office new.

1. case: Outlook won't connect to the mailserver for outgoing email. it
simplay gives an errormessage and then a field where i can enter another
server, just as if the server was down (i checked of couse with other
programs, it works perfectly) Even usig another server didn't help, nore
entering the IP instead of the server's name.

2. case: Outlook would send me all outgoing emails back with the message
that there was no service available for this adress. Of course I have
sent multiple emails to this adress before and everything worked fine
before.

I couldn't even make out a change in the system to trace back a reason
why suddenly these errors occur. Neither the office service release nor
the internet enhancement pack would solve the problem, once it comes up.
Also deinstalling the service and exchange and reinstalling won't help.

I am really hokked up on this. I have NOT 1 singel idea what to do. I
checked all settings, pushed up timeouts, everything, but nothing helped.

This is really urgent for me now that's why I crossposted it to all
groups where this could be a topic. Please excuse me in case you consider
this as spamming :)

please write me a response directly.

thanx

If you are seeing error messages, please post the EXACT text. It's impossible to know what is going on otherwise.

What services do you have included in your mail profile and what setup options are you using for your connection?

If replying by mail, you must drop the "nospam" suffix from the address

well I am running the german version, so i don't think these errormsg
would help here.

let me describe the problem once more exactly

Well what i figured out now, it ,ust be some sort of corrupt email-
settings:

I have a stabdart "internet-mail"-connection (without IMEP.

I used it for some weeks and it worked perfectly.
Some day i restart my machine, log into my ISP (not through outlook) and
press F5.

I am getting an errormsg that the mailserver was not rechable or my
password was incorrect. The I get a prompt with my email-server to change
it.
This happens ONLY on OUTGOING mail-
If i remove the outgoing mail from the outbox, he receives email fine.
But if there's some email to send, he's coming with this errormsg and
then I press cancel because the entered server is the right one. I also
tried to enter the IP of the server but it didn't help.

When I install IMEP, the errormsg changes:

He transmits the email and receives, but the email is directly sent back
to me (without leaving my pc), although he connected to the outgoing-
email-server.

The message I get is that there was no service available for the given
adress. The problem is strange because he's doing it with ALL outgoing
mail and on adresses that worked fine always.

Today, I've installed IMEP and exactly this happened. Have a second very
unused emailaccount, tho i used^the feature of IMEP to set up mutliple e-
mail accounts. Now. he'stransmitting the outgoing email over the second
server. As soon as I transmit only over the first server, I get the same
trouble again. This is why i think that the server-setup in outlook must
be somehow corrupt. But he must sav and reactiveate the file when in case
I delte the 1st server's setup, because he's giving me the same error
again when I remove the 1st server's setup and resetup it.

It's really strange. I even tried to reinstall the complete exchange, but
it didn't help. As I am using an email notify-program, i know that the
server is working perfectly (ist the same IP/DNS for outgoing and
incoming email)

I don't know why this happens becaue I didn't change anything. I have
been talking to my ISP and he doesn't know what to do. this happend to my
under windows 95 OSR2 AND under windwos NT 4 server. I don't have
exchange server installed and no other servieces except outlook
adressbook and persona folder....

This is about all I know about the programm. I have been checking out all
options of Tools-services and tools-options and didn't find anything to
change in order to make it work again.

The last time this happend, I could get it working with the second server
because the second server was already set up with the IMEP as this
happened, so it's definetly not a question of the server. At this prior
time, he wasn't able to transmit the email to both servers......

I somehow at the end wit hmy knowledge and i couldn't find out another
way of fixin it than to reinstall the whole system, windows, exchange,
office....

(I have to do this some times anyways so it was't that bad, but still
VERY annoying... and althoug i found the way arround now i don't want it
to happen again, this is why i want to know a reason and a solution now

How have you defined your connection for Outlook? Sometimes the program looks for the server before it can actually get connected and this error results.

FWIW, the German version of the Office Service Release is now available. It includes several fixes for Outlook problems and you can use the IMEP with it. The SR can be downloaded from:

http:/www.microsoft.com/office/office97/servicerelease

If you do continue to have problems, then post the exact text of the message -- Ich kann Deutsche lesen aber ich habe nicht eine deutsche Tastatur. Das Gruppe fur deutsche Kunden ist
'microsoft.public.de.outlook'

I have defined the exact connection to outlook as I am using to connect
to the inet. No matter if i'm using outlooks-connector or if i dial-in
manually before, the problem stays as it is.

I have installed the OSR1, and IMEP already, without any change to the
subject.

here's the message I get since I have installed the IMEP:
.-----------------------

.-----------------------

Furthermore, as I described, I can send email now because I have
installed a second email-server with IMEP; But outgoing email will only
be transmittet if I am viewing the outgoing-folder and highlight the
outg. emails before pressing F5.... (sounds strange, is still a
repeatable situation)

please remember that reinstalling everything would fix the problem but
wouldn't prevent it from showing up again. (also repeatedly done)

I know that this is not the german help here, that's why I'm crossposting
it, also to the german help-groups, as I didn't receive any helps in the
prior requests that i posted in only one group.

thanx for your help

ok, this is it exactly:

there IS NO problem with the email adress, they worked before an work
with the other emailaccount

I cannot send to ANY email. All email that i try to send to have been
used successfully to this first email-server, they still work with other
email-programs and with outlook on another server but not with outlook on
this one server.

thanx for your help.

btw (please don't ask me "if it works on one server, why are you
complaining?" - read the thread, there i said why i want to find out
where the problems come from....

I am having the same trouble with muliple users on NT and 95.

re: mail error "No transport provider was available for delivery to this
recipient."
This keeps showing up in my office also, with both NT and 95 and
ServicePack1 and ServicePack3 and OfficeServiceRelease1. I usually can get
messages through after a couple tries or a reboot, but have no consistent
solution. In one instance re-installing SP3 was a very definite solution.

In other instances, the quantity and size of mail appears to be the issue
and methodically using RemoteMail to selectively send mail allows the user
to get by until the next instance.

Two Win95 stations are suffering from this now, and the only workaround I
can find is using Windows Messaging or dropping Outlook.

re: logon error
Win95 systems in my office periodically lockup for over 5minutes or
indefinitely on the password entry screen.

I don't doubt that the same entry can work with another account, but there is something else going on. I have had several instances where I saved an address from an incoming message but had to retype the entry to
get the messages to be accepted. I don't know why either. It just worked that way.

On the Properties for the Internet Mail service, click the Advanced button
and enter the name of the SMTP server or its IP address. You may have tried
this already, but I would urge you to try it again.
