Hallo Zusammen,

Danke!

Normally, this isn't necessary.

This have to be done by the Office-Setup.
Windows-Start->Control Panel-> Add/Remove Programs
--> select Office Setup. Now you're able to add/remove
components for O2k (refer to related button).

When Setup routine is running, select in section "Office
Tools" the entry "International Support". Here you may
choose the wanted language (activate "Install on my
Computer" or so, not select "on demand").

In this correlation, you can install the Language Settings
Tool also. It will be helpful.

hi,

thank you very much but you may misunderstand what I want. It's nothing with
International Support, you can't find anything there. I want German proofing
tool, which can correct German spelling automatic. But for English Offince 2k
Version are only English, French and Spanish available.

best Regards,

linwen

Hi Linwen,

[language proofing tools, esp. german]

Not at all. I'm so sorry - I've named the wrong feature :-(

> It's nothing with International Support, you can't find anything
> there.

I guess this is a feature of the Multilanguage Pack only, which we have
on our business-PCs. Anyway ...

> I want German proofing tool, which can correct German spelling
> automatic.

I've got it. Normally, in the setup routine (the way was described
above), beneath the entry "Office Tools", you will find what you want.
Unfortunally, here at home I have only a german Office. So I'm able to
name the german entry only. In this version it's called
"Korrekturhilfen". Due to strange translations, as you know, I guess
there will be phrases such as "Language Tools" or "Proofing Tools".
Please check it. Within this container you'll find the searched tools
(spelling, grammar, Thesaurus etc.).

> But for English Offince 2k Version are only English, French and
> Spanish available.

This means you've found out the tools named above? Well, maybe there are
different distributions of O2k by Microsoft. But in my (german) setup
routine are listed English, French, Spain only, and if I launch the
spelling tool I get also proofing for strange languages, such as Thai or
Venda. ;-) You can check the available languages e.g. in Word -> Tools->
Languages. Maybe german is listed yet?

So, I think if the file msgr2ge.dll is on your CD (of the engl. O2k),
you are able to install the proofing tools for german. Please verify.
I'm not shure if it's only enough to copy the file onto your fix disk.
In the worst case you should try :-)

Maybe it's also possible to download the german spelling for your
version from the MS-sites. That's all I can say for the moment. Please
tell me here in the group the results.

Hi Rainer and linwen,

If you, linwen, got that message of the missing msgr2ge.dll, means that
you could and did ask for that language spelling feature. Am I wrong?

May I tell you about my experiece? : when I want to install a new language
for this feature and it is listed, I do get this message that a certain
ms__2__.dll (depending on the language, it's not always the same) is
missing and that I cannot use the feature for that language. It only does
mean that it wasn't aktivated or installed. When I get this message, I only
can say OK. I repeat my wishes and request again for the same language
spelling feature. I can get the same message again. (Don't say I'm stupid to
do the same thing over and over again to just get the same results.
I'm just stubborn and am not willing to accept answers which I don't like. It takes
alot until I believe and accept. It doesn't hurt the computer and I have lots
of patience.
I sometimes must give it several chances until it decides to give me a different
answer. And it does usually. Now the program believed me and accepted me.
Then it tells me to put the CD into the drive, and everything goes right.

This is how I get my new language spelling feature installed onto
Words /Office XP. Have you given it a try?

> So, I think if the file msgr2ge.dll is on your CD (of the engl. O2k),

Rainer, I think you're on the right track.

Oh Rainer, when anybody could find that out, it would be a GREAT help
for many many people around this world.

Anybody have any experience with http://www.spellchecker.com ?
I don't have that, but it's just a suggestion in case every other try fails.

best regards,

Opal

Hi linwen, hi Opal,

> got that message of the missing msgr2ge.dll [...]

I've done a search for this DLL on my PC and on the O2k-
CD; for both languages, German and English. But I couldn't
find it. This means, the O2k don't uses this resource.

The GR stands for Grammar. And without this DLL a spelling
*and* grammar check will be done successful (on my PCs).

> when anybody could find that out, it would be a GREAT
> help for many many people around this world.

Well, give me a try ;-)
In the view of fact named above, I assume this missing DLL
is a part of an older MSOffice, such as O97. Or the latest
New-spelling Tool delivered for usage with O97. Maybe
someone have installed O2k without deinstallation of an
older version or so. However, it's possible.

Also if a deinstallation was done it may happen, that some
Registry keys from this version remain there.

If you'll get this error, please do a search for it at the
registry. If so, please delete the corresponding key
(previously, do a backup for safety).

Maybe this will be the solution, but then a feedback is
needed and helpful.

Kind regards
Rainer

Hallo linwen,

Deiner Englische Version,.....leider.

Sprache. Andere Auswege zu suchen ist ja selbstverständlich.

Ich wundere mich was Rainer jetzt macht....

Gruss
Opal

That's a good search.

In the English Version of Office 97, there were French,
Dutch, Spanish, and German language proofing tools
on it. If someone updates from Office 97 to Office 2000
I think that person would have these languages still available.

But if somebody installs the full version of Office 2000,
like I guess linwen did, and did not do an update, then he
definitely would have only the choices between English,
Spanisch, and French.

Wasn't it the 'Alki Language Proofing Tool' which Microsoft
uses for all Office products? Had to buy it directly from Alki
many years ago if you wanted other languages. It's the
same now, but you buy it directly fron MS and it's called
Microsoft Office 2000 Proofing Tools. But nobody is buying
it if he or she needs only one or two more languages mostly
for private use.

The question still remains. Is it possible to get one feature from
this German version onto the English version? I was just wondering
how the Proofing Tool mentioned above does it with its program.

Yes, but I think that mine is not an orphaned registry key but
more likely due to my update version. I use a standard version
of OfficeXP which was updated from Office 97 at home and I
have languages more than enough (resulting from my laziness,
this feature of spell and grammar checking stays permanently
inactive, which I do regret and feel really sorry especially when
I write in German).

What have you been up to, what did you find out?

Cheers,

Opal

No, it isn't :)
I've found out, that my version here uses other resources.
These are msgrGE32.dll, mssp3GE.dll and msth3GE.dll. In
a 'normal' Office distribution these will be named for
missing german proofing tools also. I've checked it out.

But I told you, that I use the Multilanguage Pack here.
And there the proofing tools for other wanted languages,
e.g. german, are included.

>> In the view of fact named above, I assume this missing

OK, this may possible. And the timestamps of named files
above are older than 2000.

Ack.

Okay, I've realized it. It's absolutely correct. On MS
sites you can find, which language proofing tools will be
delivered by the localized version of Office only.

> Wasn't it the 'Alki Language Proofing Tool' which
> Microsoft uses for all Office products?

Not for all distributions. My used DLLs are by Lingsoft or
Lernout&Hauspie. It seems to depend on the region.

> but you buy it directly fron MS and it's called

Right. Here are two links regarding this:
OfficeXP:
http://www.microsoft.com/Office/evaluation/indepth/multilin
gual/prooftools.htm
Office2000:
http://www.microsoft.com/Office/previous/deployment/worldwi
de/proofing.htm

Here you will find a lot of informations about proofing
tools.

> But nobody is buying it if he or she needs only one or
> two more languages mostly for private use.

But it seems to be the one and only legal possibility for
usage an other wanted language proofing ;-)

> The question still remains. Is it possible to get one

If you have installed the English Office you can't start
the setup of the German version. There will be a (normal)
resource conflict and you'll get a corresponding error
message.

And copy from the German CD? I'm not sure, but I guess
this will be a positiv result. You can check it out :)

But, maybe this will also result in a license problem...

> I was just wondering how the Proofing Tool mentioned
> above does it with its program.

You mean, as I can use it? As I told you, we use the
Multilanguage Pack. That's the reason.

Okay, I know that this answer will be implicitly not
satisfying. Granted, but that's all I found out.

This answer is so definite, I bow my head and humbly accept.

It is dissapointing that the 'German' option has been removed
from the newer Englisch Office full versions. No one shall
see the fist I make behind by back.

You have contributed through your search and feedback
distinctive outlines which I really appreciated. Thank you

MS politics. A new, external feature profits. And the
wheel doesn't spinning around without money ;-)

Don't mention it! It blows up my mind, also :)

Hallo an alle beteiligten,
