Hi NG,

is there a way to automatically eject a tape out of a standalone tape
drive? I use a Quantum LTO 4 Tape Drive.

Cheers,

For standalone tape drive its not possible as there are no I/E ports
available. For Tape libraries you can use
Lock-DPMLibraryIEPort/Unlock-DPMLibraryIEPort cmdlets. Please find more
information about it at:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb809145.aspx

ok... thx.

Therefore I'd like to make a feature request for this. I've got a lot of
customers which are having non-it-staff only and they are changing
tapes. For making it as easy as possible, this feature would be great
for those.

Cheers,

Can you please give some more information about the user scenario
you are trying to automate where you need tape ejection? Do you script
something like, do a backup on to a tape, once the backup is completed eject
the tape? Most of the standalone drives do have an eject button. Given that
there is only one tape can be placed at a time in the standalone drive. For
any insert/eject operations one has to physically access the drive. Its just
that the Eject button need to be pressed before it comes out.

Thanks,

HI Praveen,

you are right! One eject button and one power on/off button on every
tape drive. Percentage non-it-staff tries the power on/off before trying
the eject tape button --> 90% ;-)

we are protection one protection group with disk to disk to tape. when
the tape process is finished non-it-staff replaces the tape with a new
one and so on.

Cheers,

I would also like to have this feature as it, is something our customers have become acustomed to with Symantec Backup Exec.... and Yes I do agree with Praveen that you could just press the "Eject Button". However like Andr stated many non-IT users do not notice the eject button on first glance... it is strictly a convenance factor of having it automatically and is a standard feature in similar applications..
