DPM 2010 fails to connect to attach agent in work groupe

Agent is installed and configured on the remote computer. And the computers
can communicate with each other (ping on the server name). I also have on
other server at the same LAN at this server resist on and that one is working
fine.

Getting this erro when trying to attatch the second serverthat i want to
backup:

Attach protected computer sea0720sweb2 failed:
Error 32684: Unable to contact the protection agent on server sea0720sweb2.
Recommended action: 1) Ensure that the above server name is accessible from
the DPM server.
2) Ensure that the protection agent has been installed on the remote server.
Also ensure that you have run SetDpmServer.Exe with the -isNonDomainServer
option on the protected computer.


Here is when i configured the agent:

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Data Protection Manager\DPM\bin>setdpmserver.exe
-dpmservername idedpm05 -
isnondomainserver -username sea0720sweb2dpm

When you are pining the machines DPM --> PS, can you please check
ipconfig output of the PS with the ping output from DPM server for IP
addresses match? Same thing to need to be verified for PS --> DPM
communication as well. If everything is correct can you please try giving a
different username? Give something that do not have the machine name in it,
don't use machine names as the user account substrings. If you are still
facing the problem, can you please send the logs present under
%programfiles%\Program Files\Microsoft DPM\DPM\Temp directory from DPM
Server and %programfiles%\Microsoft Data Protection Manager\DPM\temp
directory files from Workgroup machine to praveend at microsoft dot com.

Sorry to dig up this old thread but I'm having the exact same issue.

Same error message, my computers can ping, no firewalls turned on, and IP's
match hostnames.

Possibly of significance is that one of the systems is a 2008R2 server
configured with routing.

On the server side there was nothing in the logs from this time frame. (both
clocks were synced).

The trace looks like its from DPMRA of the protected computer and DPMRA seem
to be not getting initialized correctly. Can you please make sure that you
have followed the example 1 listed at:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff634193.aspx to complete the
attach the agent?
