Hello There,

I wrote the post below in December 06, but priorities meant that I
couldnt act on it .. now I have the time to focus on it, and I was
wondering if anyone can help me. I am still experiencing the same
problem as shown below. I have tried it in Virtual PC 2004, VPC 2007, &
Virtual Server 2005 R2. In each case the same problem happens........

I'm trying out DPM v2 beta1.

My DPM is running in a Virtual Server guest. This guest is running
Windows Server 2003 R2 with 1G of RAM.

I was able to install the agent to a target server. I can add the
Exchange database to be protected.

The Protection Group gets created - and that's as far as it will let me go.

When the replica is in the stage of "Initializing" it goes like this for
hours, until I then realise it isn't really initializing. When I look in
Monitoring -> Jobs I see this error:

Type: Replica creation
Status: Failed
Description: DPM failed to communicate with
kew07.kingston.serverau.com.au because the host is unreachable. (ID 41
Details: No such host is known (0x80072AF9))
Start time: 3/12/2006 12:13:12 AM
Time elapsed: 08:28:21
Data transferred: 0 MB (0 bytes)
Source details: First Storage Group
Protection group: KEW07

Note that the status says "Failed". Originally the job is still "In
Progress" even when that error is originally displayed, which is
bizarre. I have to right-click and select "Cancel", and then the job
gets logged as "Failed".

I have tried running a consistency check ... but I get the exact same error.

The thing is that I can ping the protected server no problem
(kew07.kingston.serverau.com.au) from the DPM server. I also notice that
when the replica creation or consistency check jobs are running the
DPMRA process is running on the protected server.

These servers are separated by a WAN, and the link speed is 1 megabit.
There has been no traffic at all on the WAN when I've tried these jobs.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Nev

Nev,

The error seems to indicate that the TCP connection failed to find the host.
Are you able to TS from the DPM machine to the PS machine and vice versa?
